Hentucky Breaks with the Arab Strap Boys – Welcome Home Hentucky
Saturday 21st July 2007 @ The Deptford Arms

Back from Canada and feeling fresh Hentucky teamed up with “The Arab Strap Boys” to put on a night featuring live bands and music. Building up from the momentum from the Canadian event this seemed like the natural progression for Hentucky, however I didn’t really know any smaller bands in the UK as I’ve been out of the UK scene for a while (ignoring the obvious favourites) hence the teaming with the Arab Strap Boys.

The line up was pretty decent mixing up local(ish) talent with a bit of DJ action. On the bill we had Jason from “Blah Blah Blah” doing an exclusive acoustic set. Rolling in late and a bit perturbed (or so it seemed) he came in, sat down and put on a very nice acoustic set. The crowd seemed to pick up and enjoy what he was doing as he gave a nice and honest account of wanking in the shower and whatever else (at this point my memory started to fade).

The Saudis where on next with a rip roaring improv piece of drum kit in a shopping trolley loveliness. They put on a good show, doing the total cliché of being nice lads, but looking and stinking a little of piss, being pissed and love taking the piss (in a humours indie way). It did get a bit Docherty at one point, and Adam had to introduce them with his pants round his ankle, but from a performance point of view it was superb.

Ending off the live section of the evening The Momeraths where a girl/boy acoustic set up. Moving away from the crack based antics of the previous act they brought a nice fuzziness to the evening. The Momeraths where called in (nicely done by the Strappers) as last minute replacements for The Pepys. They played an excellent (and my favourite) performance of the evening, and are not to dissimilar to the whole Los Campensino’s Arts & Crafts vibe.

To end of the evening we moved onto the DJ section of the evening. Flawless Victory supplied the dirty Electro beats which everyone could get their head bop into. Eventually I took control of the decks and played a Hentucky party set. Bobby Brown went down well, with a rendition of Oasis foot kicking end of the night hugging.

Overall a decent turn out and a good mixture of people (minus some little kid old enough to be my son (just) wearing a Yashmagh whilst trying to get involved in a few cheeky tokes… where’s the parentage?) it ended up as a good evening. Also big up dog barking to the Saudi’s set as well, not sure who was more in tune or not?
