Skroez's been in the graff game for many years now. Based in Wales, he's definitely an amazing artist, now producing a variety of commission pieces. But like every graffer, you got to start somewhere, hence this little biography of Skroez, which showcases his and his crews work. This section will be continually updated.
1984 - 1985
1984
It all started early 1984, I first started to notice pieces popping up on my estate. I was 11 years old at the time, as I was interested in art this fascinated me. I didn't know was doing this paintings on the walls, but thought to my self I got to start this myself, but how?
I started to copy these designs on to my school covers, and scraps of paper, then to my shock I found out that my own uncle and his mates where painting these walls. Back then there was nothing better than waking up, hoping a new wall would be painted.
Anyway I ask my uncle to teach me, but he wasn't having none of it at the time. feeling gutted I got a drawing pad, and started to practice and practice, after a few months I showed my uncle and his mates my art work to my surprise they where impressed. They then showed me SUBWAY ART and that book just blew me away. And from that I knew then that graffiti was going to be a part of my life for many years to come.
I asked if I could go out painting with my uncle, but being 11years old at the time it was impossible. At the same time Channel 4 screened STYLE WARS.I soon found like minded people from school and my estate towards late 84 who where also interested in graffiti. Then one day me and my mate bunked of school and stole some spray paint from the local hardware shop, and done our first piece, well mess to be honest. But it was a daytime piece, near a busy supermarket so we had to be fast, and we had no idea of how to use a spray can.
1985
1985 was year of still learning, started to practice more and more, by then a few mates and I, formed a crew called T.M.B. we used to practice our pieces on a legal wall on the easte and back garages that no body seemed to mind us painting. but 85 was about getting to know peeps at the local youth centre, we would enjoy the B-Boys breaking to electro music, they held up rocks with various crews around Cardiff.
That year we got our first commission in the city centre, which was wicked, as we had a local DJ Jaffa rocking beats, from the shop we where painting, really good couple of days....sadly the photos have been lost of the days, and the shop and pub we painted no longer exist. But 85 was more of a quieter time for some reason....
Oh I also remember coming home from school, with some mates, we walked through I shopping centre to turn around to a piece called no crime graffiti, that was fresh, seeing that.
